When a youth bible study is manipulated by their insane leader into performing a group suicide, two of the members conspire to stop it. Through their stories we begin to understand the leader’s madness. Cult is a dark drama that explores mental illness, sibling relationships, and youth in power.
Cult was shot for a total of $10,000 on a canon 7D in the house of Lance Karasti’s parents. The crew consisted of two people. When actors weren’t in shots they would become crew members temporarily. In order to pull off some of the elaborate master shots in the film, the crew had to get creative and do things like using a wheelchair as a Dolly. Principle photography was completed in in two weeks.
